Smith Rafael Film Center: Documentary Film Festival

Marin County is known for the abundant outdoor activities and natural beauty but you know what? We also have an indoor gem that you need to know about: The Smith Rafael Film Center in San Rafael. The theatre is located about an 11-minute drive from Acqua Hotel, about 20 minutes from Waters Edge Hotel, and Mill Valley Inn.

The Rafael

The Rafael theatre has been a landmark in San Rafael since 1920. The beautiful three-screen theatre is known for it’s regular program of eclectic, interesting, international films. And there’s a great snack bar!

Doclands Film Festival

As well as regular programming, the organization puts on the internationally famous 11-day Mill Valley Film Festival every October and in May Doclands, a documentary film festival taking place May 5-11. Check out the schedule for films and events taking place during the week.

Dinner and a Movie in San Rafael

Make a night of it with dinner at Tam Commons, State Room, Vin Antico, or Il Davide — all close to the theater. Just a cocktail? You can do no better than California Gold.

Oh, parking! If you go on a weekend, there is free parking at the A Street and C Street Garages. You will also find metered parking on the street, usually within a few blocks.

Enjoy the show!
