Smith Rafael Film Center, an Only In Marin Theater

Smith Rafael Film Center, an Only In Marin Theater

Here’s a no-compromises Marin County rainy day activity: The Smith Rafael Film Center in San Rafael. Located in pretty close proximity to our Marin Hotels, it’s a quick drive to downtown San Rafael. Make a night of it with dinner at Le Comptoir, State Room, Vin Antico, or Il Davide — all close to the theater.

What makes The Rafael special? Well…

THE CHRISTOPHER B. SMITH RAFAEL FILM CENTER may well be the most elegant and comfortable place on the planet to enjoy great films and see some of the world’s leading filmmakers. The Rafael is owned and operated by the California Film Institute, the non-profit arts organization that also produces the annual Mill Valley Film Festival and ongoing CFI Education programs. It houses three state-of-the-art auditoriums, offers a lively and diverse schedule of first-run engagements, including independent, foreign-language and documentary films, and welcomes frequent presentations by artists and experts in the field.

The programming includes special screenings, film festivals like the documentary film festival at the end of April and the uber popular Mill Valley Film Festival in October. Festivals aside, there’s always an interesting line-up. On our radar: a film about Fantastic Fungi, a Grease Sing-Along, and a film featuring our fuzzy overlords Cat Video Fest 2020.

Enjoy the movie!
