Marin Travel Guide: The Main Streets of Marin County

Marin County — with its Pacific coastline, National Parks, Redwood forests, headlands, and hiking trails — is famous for abundant nature and magnificent views. But there’s another side of Marin County to include on your itinerary: the small towns of Marin.

And small town usually means a Main Street! Charming, right? We don’t want to give you too much info about what to do, eat, and drink because half the fun of these Main Streets is discovering for yourself. So just keep your eyes peeled for our favorites and stop to enjoy the vibes!

Mill Valley. Several intersecting small streets make up downtown of Mill Valley. You’ll find lots of shops and restaurants amid Redwood trees and historic buildings. A great place to hang out is the town square behind the Depot Cafe and Bookstore. Want to stay in downtown Mill Valley? Check out Mill Valley Inn!

Tiburon. The main street of Tiburon is called Main Street! Treat yourself to a Caviar Flight at The Caviar Company or a glass of wine at Squalo Vino or maybe you made reservations with a view at Bungalow Kitchen. You can see that you’ll dine well on Tiburon’s Main Street! Stay in Tiburon on Main Street at Waters Edge Hotel, a few steps walk from any of the dining destinations.

San Anselmo. Super Duper low-key, and quintessentially Marin. You’ll linger on San Anselmo Avenue without meaning to because it is so inviting! The Coffee Roastery on the corner of San Anselmo Avenue and Tamalpais is a great place to watch the town go about its business. Stop in to Souvenir Bottleshop to immerse in the lovely design and the unbeatable combination of natural wine and vinyl.

Fairfax. This town has a hippie reputation but we’ll let you decide for yourself. There is a live music hub on Broadway for those of you who like a night out (Mac’s at 19 Broadway and Peri’s). Waystaion a few blocks further has daytime live music. And there’s super chill shopping, lounging, eating all along Broadway and Bolinas Road. The small Redwood park on Bolinas Road is the perfect place to lay on the grass under the trees after you’ve explored the small town.

Point Reyes Station. The main street here is actually Highway 1 (CA-1). You must go to Point Reyes Books!

Sausalito. The main street of Saualito is Bridgeway. Sausalito is pretty famous so you’ve probably already know about it, but nonetheless, worth a trip for the views across the Bay to San Francisco from the south end of Bridgeway. Local’s Tip: check out Caledonia Street, which was the original Main Street. You’ll find a handful of good restaurants and shops, and a really excellent local grocer Drivers Market.

See you out there!
