Experience a Marin County Redwood Forest
Walking in a Redwood forest in Marin County is always a good idea!! But especially at this time of the year with a scootch of autumn in the air, it’s our seasonal obligation to pull on a sweater and walk through the trees. We’ve written a Marin County Travel Guide: Redwood Forests of Marin County, and in this post we’re focusing on one Redwood Forest in particular — Roy’s Redwoods Preserve. Please note: for our Marin Hotels guests who are traveling with their dog, good news! Roy’s Redwoods is a dog-friendly as long as your dog is leashed and on-trail.
About Roy’s Redwoods Preserve in Marin County
Roy’s Redwood Preserve is a Marin County Park comprised of almost 300 acres and includes a Redwood Loop trail with a recently renovated rails and a raised boardwalk. The easy and accessible-for-all loop is about 2.5 miles and we suggest taking your time in this beautiful spot. You can complete the traill in about an hour, but we encourage a nice slow walk through the old growth forest (some are almost 300 years old) of tall trees (some are almost 300 feet tall).

Planning Your Visit to Roy’s Redwoods in Marin County
First, the basics: Admission is free. There is a porta-potty at the trail entrance. And it’s open from dawn to dusk.
Parking: There is not a parking lot, rather you park along the Nicasio Valley Road. Look for the turn-of just after Sir Francis Drake. You’ll see other cars so pull in where you can find a spot and head towards the trail.
Please note: cell phone reception is spotty in this part of Marin County. We think that adds to the relaxing vibe, but plan ahead and download maps before you go, just in case. Here are the google driving directions to Roys Redwoods from Acqua Hotel, Waters Edge Hotel, and Mill Valley Inn.
