Marin Wildflower Hike: Tiburon Superbloom!

Hello Marin Hotels guests, we have a treat for you: An accessible and stunning wildflower walk in the hills above Tiburon. Only a 5 minute drive from Waters Edge Hotel, and a few minutes more from Acqua Hotel and Mill Valley Inn, this hike is a staff favorite!

Old St. Hillarys Preserve

Old St. Hilarys Preserve is the crown jewel in the Marin County Parks system! This 122-acre Tiburon preserve offers world class views, among the best in Marin. The trail we like is called the Tiburon Ridge Trail, specifically the section called the Heathcliff Fire Road. There are several up and down hills on this hike, but trust us, the views are worth it!

Getting There: Tiburon Ridge Trail

Set your GPS to Heathcliff Drive. The trailhead is in a residential neighborhood, you might get lucky and find a place right at the trailhead. You’ll quickly see the signage for the Tiburon Ridge Trail, followed a few steps later by a sign for Old St Hilarys Open Space Preserve. Stay to the left to take the high road, and walk as far as you feel like walking. The view will guide you! On the way back you can use the same road or cut to the right to take the lower trail back, making a loop back to your car. Out and back is just over a mile, slightly more if you do the loop.

Tiburon Ridge Trail: Experience

Words cannot do justice to the views you will see from up here! Full views of Tiburon (Hello Waters Edge Hotel!), the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Skyline, Angel Island, and Mt. Tam. And this time of year, the Wildflowers of Old St Hilary Preserve! Seriously, that link is worth a click.

Our favorite combination is the Serpentine (the California State Rock) with the Poppy (the California Sate Flower). It brings such joy!

Make sure your phone is charged, you’re going to take lots of photos. As we said earlier, there are ups and downs on the hills. Take it slowly, bring a walking stick if you usually hike with one, and just enjoy the scenery.

Bonus: More Tiburon Flowers

If want to view some more spectacular spring blooms in Tiburon, get in your car and head up to Vistazio West Street, a residential area. Not only will you be treated to more amazing views, but you’ll see lots and lots of Buddleia in bloom. It’s truly spectacular!

See you out there!
