On Two Wheels Travel Guide: Biking In Marin County California

Mountain Biking was invented in Marin County, so it only makes sense that we offer our Marin Hotels guests complimentary use of our Trek Mountain Bikes to explore the trails of Marin. To go along with our bikes, we’ve pulled together a few resources here to help you plan your ride. Also hello to you Leisurely Bike Riders out there, we have resources for you too. Whether it’s a shaded Redwood grove or a killer climb, we hope you enjoy your ride!

Mountain Biking in Marin: Start Here

  • Studio Velo has compiled a list of Marin’s Classic Loops; all of the rides start and end in Mill Valley. On the site, you’ll find maps, photos, and directions for all of the loops. Sign up for their group ride email for the opportunity to join up with like-minded riders for a spin around Marin.

  • For REI’s MTB Project’s listing of mountain bike trails on Mt. Tam visit MTB Project. They rank, rate, and even provide the current weather.

  • If you want to go to where it all started, consider Repack Road, one of the first trails to give mountain biking a kickstart.

  • Mountain Bike SF will create a group or private guided ride experience.

  • And yes, Marin County has a Bike The Flow Trail. Yikes!

Leisurely Bike Rides In Marin

Not up for taking on a rugged trail? A simple, leisurely spin around town is encouraged too! We like a ride from Mill Valley Inn or Acqua Hotel to Proof Lab Surf Shop for coffee and shopping the selection of surf and skate wear and gear.

After that, join up with the Mill Valley-Sausalito multi-use pathway near The Proof Lab to continue to Sausalito. Stop for bayside lunch at The Joinery and a post-lunch visit to Heath Ceramics. Make it back to Mill Valley Inn in time for wine under the Redwoods (Mill Valley Inn) or Bayside (Acqua Hotel), and you’ve had pretty much the perfect day.

From Waters Edge Hotel, we like a flat and easy ride out to Blackie's Pasture. If we’re feeling slightly more adventurous, we’ll ride to Paradise Beach State Park, or bike the Tiburon Loop.
