Marin County Redwoods are a National Treasure

Nature-wise there’s a bunch going on in Marin County right now! Book your stay at one of our Marin Hotels for close proximity to all of it: wildflowers and waterfalls, thanks to our winter rains; and let’s not forget about our Redwoods because they are especially magical in the summertime when the sun beams filter through the high canopy.

First though, we thought you might like to slide into the Redwood mood with this video of California Coastal Redwoods. Ahhhhh….

Visit Marin County Redwood Forests

Muir Woods. One of the most frequent inquiries we hear from our guests at Marin Hotels is what’s the best way to do Muir Woods. Naturally our guests want to visit one of the crown jewels of the National Park system right here in Marin. We always say: make reservations. And try to go at the least crowded times: early morning and later in the day. Since Muir Woods is close to all of our hotels, you can easily get a jump on the crowds.

Old Mill Park. Lovely Redwoods and easy paths wind around the area. An easy walk from Mill Valley Inn (which, worth noting, has its own Redwood grove), you’ll be immersed in the grove in under 5 minutes. Street parking is available too. Tack on a short jaunt through the neighborhood to Cascade Falls to see more Redwoods, homes, and seasonally, a waterfall.

Baltimore Canyon. Okay now you know what the locals know: this spot tucked behind a neighborhood in Larkspur is one of the most amazing spots in Marin to get in the trees, with a bonus seasonal waterfall called Dawn Falls.

Pro Tip: the parking at the trailhead is super limited. Go early or find a spot in the neighborhood and walk to the trailhead. Worth it! You will see homes of all types built around the Redwoods — literally. An only-in-Marin experience! Here’s more detail on the area.

Samual P. Taylor State Park. These lesser-known Redwoods in Marin county offer a peaceful place to connect with nature, and a Redwood-filled beautiful backroads drive to the destination.

Roy’s Redwoods. Some of the tallest Redwoods in Marin can be found in this quiet, uncrowded forest with an easy loop hike. (In the link, click on Parks and Preserves and then scroll to find Roy’s Redwoods)

See you out there!
