Dining Guide: Where To Eat in Sausalito

Dining Guide: Where To Eat in Sausalito

The always-on question when you’re vacationing in Marin County — where to eat? If you’re staying at one of our Marin Hotels, breakfast is complimentary so that’s one meal down. So let’s talk lunch and dinner. Since our Sausalito Travel Guide is one of our most popular posts, we’re going to focus on where to eat in Sausalito. (Oh while we’re on the topic, here’s another Sausalito Travel Guide — One Perfect Day in Sausalito)

Below we’ve created a few categories, with our favorite restaurants in each to help narrow your selection. If you want a full Sausalito Dining Guide, check out that link from Marin Magazine. Please let us know if you find a favorite!

Italian

Poggio offers a classic Italian trattoria experience. We are all about their pastas and risotto. The vegetables are grown in a garden located a few blocks up the hill from the restaurant — one of the many reasons Poggio is a Marin Michelin Bib Gourmand winner.

Mexican

Copita is pictured in the image at the top of this post. Doesn’t that say it all? We always order the chicken mole enchiladas but everything is good because it’s all made from scratch with fresh, seasonal, California ingredients. If you’re on a gluten-free diet, this is the place for you, since lunch and dinner menus are 100% gluten-free.

Japanese

Sushi Ran. Not only considered one of the best sushi restaurants in California, but also the country. In addition to sushi, lots of cooked dishes are on the menu — say yes to the scallop and chive dumplings and the miso glazed black cod. Local’s secret? Lunch is served M-F and that’s the only time you can order the amazing Temupura Udon Noodles, Bento Boxes, and Chirashi Bowl.

Pizza

Bar Bocce in Sausalito is a high recommend for the pizza, but it also rates as a best place for dining by the water in Marin. And because it’s pizza, we’re adding a second recommendation — Dario’s. Like Sushi Ran, it’s on a a side street, a little off the beaten track. Worth the extra block’s walk!

French

Le Garage serves up French bistro vibe in a former garage located on the shores of a marina on Sausalito’s shoreline. Always bustling with a casual local crowd, Le Garage is a fun experience when you’re looking for a buzzy restaurant.

Seafood

Fish is a sustainable seafoodery located on the shores of Sausalito. Don’t let the casual “order at the counter/picnic table” set-up fool you into thinking this is your typical fish-n-chips shack. The food is 5-star, especially any daily special. Don’t pass up the clam dip, the albacore poke, and (yes) the fish-n-chips.

Salads

Honestly is anything better than a big salad to break up all of those only-on-vacation meals? Joinery will set you right. The fattuoush salad with roast chicken brings us back time and time again. A side of dirty fries, an exceptional beer, and a sitting on the dock of the bay feeling complete your experience.

Asian

Kitty’s Place is a super-casual local’s spot in a strip mall located off the beaten track, serving lunch Monday-Saturday. It’s the kind of place that you’re looking for when you ask “where do the locals go for lunch, you know the working people?”… well you might see a few of our staff there around lunch time!

Cockatils

If you are feeling the cocktails, go to Barrel House Tavern, a must cocktail destination in Sausalito. A true cocktail program is on the menu, along with a setting that happens to be both cozy and modern at the same time. Cheers!
