Design To Do: Visit Heath Ceramics in Sausalito
Heath Ceramics is one of those gems that makes Marin County special. We're so lucky that they have called Sausalito home for 70 (!!) years. The story of Heath is told best by them:
“Since its founding in 1948, Heath’s been owned by two families, both driven by design, and sharing a commitment to handcrafted work and a determination to question the status quo.”
Designers, artists, potters, people who like to see how things are made: a visit to Heath is a must. You can browse the shop where you'll find their latest products, some seconds, a really well curated selection of books and local food products, and usually fresh coffee. It's a tactile place, you'll want to pick things up and feel their curves and their heft.
Even better? The Heath factory tour. The factory in Sausalito makes all of the dinnerware for the company. You'll see their plates and vases on tables throughout the Bay Area and beyond. The iconic bud vase is the perfect size for tucking into a carry-on. Ya know, in case you were looking for souvenir shopping recommendations.
