Marin Travel Guide: Top 10 Things To Do in Marin County

The “Top 10 Things to do in Marin County” list is always a matter of debate here at Marin Hotels. Debate for a good cause: we want our guests to experience the best of Marin during their stay with us. Today we share our always-agreed-upon Top 10 Must-Do’s in Marin. Get ready, this is a packed post. Plan accordingly, you’re going to want to stay awhile!

BTW, these are in no particular order. Actually, consider them all #1!

  1. Muir Woods. What a wonderful thing to have in our backyard, located about 20-ish minutes from the each of our Marin Hotels. That means you can plan your visit to experience the towering old-growth Redwoods during the least crowded times in the morning or at sunset with a quick drive after breakfast or before dinner. Be sure to make reservations at Muir Woods well in advance.

  2. Angel Island. There is no finer way to spend time in Marin than on this island in the middle of the San Francisco Bay. Here’s our Angel Island Travel Guide.

  3. Mt. Tamalpais. Almost every outdoor activity under sun and fog is possible on Mt. Tam, as the locals call it. Mountain biking was invented here. Views galore. So many trails to hike — including one of our favorite flat hikes in Marin County. Oh and Hang gliding!

  4. Marin Headlands. Go for the SPECTACULAR views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Stay for the solitude, the embrace of the Pacific Ocean, and the feel of big nature all around you. Check out Rodeo Beach for the surfers and from there add-on another of our favorite flat hikes in Marin

  5. Stinson Beach. A classic Northern California beach. Wide and surrounded by cliffs, hills, and dunes. Perfect for a day of just hanging out. Here’s our Stinson Beach Guide.

  6. Mill Valley. A quintessential Northern California town, known for its quality of life. Charm for days. Here’s our Mill Valley Travel Guide.

  7. Point Reyes National Seashore. A wild stretch of coastline on the edge of the continent. The Point Reyes Lighthouse is a highlight. Looking for a hike? One of our favorite Marin County Flat Hikes is here and so is one of the most scenic hikes in the world: Tomales Point Trail. (Note: you’ll park at Pierce Point Ranch, where the trailhead is. You may want to download the directions/map before you head out as cell service can be spotty out in West Marin.)

  8. Bay Cruise. During a bay cruise with the locally-owned Ferry service in Tiburon (Angel Island Tiburon Ferry), you will put yourself in the scenery on the Bay. Whether you go at sunset (yes, do it) or you opt for a cruise around Alcatraz, you're going to have that "living in a postcard" moment.

  9. Farm to Table Tour. You may have heard we have an excellent food story here in Marin. Food and Farm tours in Marin knows how to tell the story so well via tours to the best food destinations.

  10. Seaplane Tour. Aerial views are currently all the rage, but Seaplane Adventures has known all about the power of the aerial view since 1945. Owned and operated by a local Marin family, you'll be awed by this one-of-a-kind experience.

Oh, we wanted to let you know that we are not commercially affiliated with any of the companies, people, or places we mention on our blog. We don't receive commissions or any sort of compensation. We mention them simply because we believe they have something special to offer you, our guests!
